Akili Kids! Introduces Akili Fam!
As a Community Manager who often interacts with Akili Kids! parents and caregivers, it’s always refreshing to see how invested adults are in these shows that are curated for children. But it comes as no surprise, between work, parenting, house chores and other errands, parents/caregivers are trying hard to find whatever opportunity there is to spend some quality time with their children. In most cases this has been achieved through watching TV together. This did not start yesterday, I remember during school breaks, my dad would adjust his work schedule to ensure he got home early to watch a show with me. Unfortunately, back in the day TV did not offer much for children and families, and so we mostly bonded over soaps and as you can imagine there were numerous awkward moments, but we tried to make it work.
Our greatest kept secret at Akili Kids! is that we are the second most watched TV station between 6pm-10pm in Kenyan homes with children below the age of 14. In addition to this, our weekly viewership of 5.3 million children and 4.2 million adults makes it evident that families are watching. With this in mind, we wanted to create something that will bring everyone in on the fun. Content that serves every family member.
This is the birth story of Akili Fam! a new evening block on Akili Kids! that is founded on 3 fundamental values; connection, interaction and family. Akili Fam! aims to entertain, uplift, inspire and improve families through purposeful, engaging viewing and listening experiences. To start us off, the new segment is set to air on Fridays and Saturdays between 6pm-10pm starting 3rd December 2021.
Akili Fam! is a safe destination for all families, with no cringe moments or awkward kissing scenes. The block looks to provide an opportunity for families to bond intentionally and give Kenyan homes reprieve from the mundanity of usual programming that we are all accustomed to. The block features exciting New Shows and Saturday Night Movies that are thought provoking and aim to spark conversation.
With this additional new block, Akili Kids! continues to be a brand that children want, parents trust and families enjoy together.
